Symptom 5. Lack of Appetite or Nausea: Not Just a Stomach Problem
A surprising symptom of heart failure is a decrease in appetite or a feeling of nausea. When the digestive system doesn’t receive an adequate blood supply, it can result in a lack of interest in food or a nauseated feeling.
Furthermore, the body, in an attempt to cope with heart failure, might release certain substances into the bloodstream which can lead to loss of appetite and nausea. In more advanced stages of heart failure, abdominal swelling due to fluid buildup might also occur, causing feelings of fullness or discomfort that might further suppress appetite.
While these symptoms might seem more related to digestive issues, when coupled with other signs of heart failure, they should not be ignored. If you have persistent appetite loss or nausea, especially if you’ve noticed other symptoms mentioned here, it’s a good idea to consult your doctor. (5)
