Sign 8: Difficulty Concentrating or Decreased Alertness
Another sign often linked to CHF, yet easily overlooked, is experiencing difficulty concentrating or a decrease in alertness. These cognitive changes can be subtle at first but may progress as the disease advances.
CHF affects the heart’s ability to pump oxygen-rich blood to all the organs, including the brain. Over time, this reduced supply of oxygen can affect cognitive functions, leading to issues with concentration, memory, and overall alertness.
Initially, individuals may notice they are more forgetful or have trouble focusing on tasks. This can often be dismissed as stress or aging. However, when combined with other symptoms of CHF, it might be a clue to an underlying heart issue.
Changes in cognitive function should never be disregarded, especially when accompanied by other CHF symptoms. If you notice persistent difficulties with concentration or decreased alertness, a thorough medical evaluation would be recommended. (8)
