Last on our list, but certainly not least in significance, is a cause that none of us can escape: aging. As we grow older, changes in our heart’s structure and function can lead to a condition known as senile cardiomyopathy.

As the years pass, the heart undergoes several changes. It may get slightly larger, its walls may thicken, and its ability to relax may decrease. Aging can also exacerbate other risk factors for cardiomyopathy. For instance, high blood pressure or diabetes may worsen over time and have a more significant impact on heart health in older individuals. Additionally, the heart’s ability to repair itself decreases with age, making it more susceptible to damage. (10)
