Symptom 6: Chest Pain or Discomfort
Intermittent atrial fibrillation can also cause chest pain or discomfort, often described as pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain in the center of the chest. This symptom, also known as angina, happens when the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen-rich blood.
It’s important to note that not everyone with intermittent atrial fibrillation will experience chest pain. The presence and severity of chest discomfort vary greatly among individuals and may depend on factors like the person’s age, overall health, and the presence of other health conditions.
While occasional mild chest discomfort might not be alarming, any severe, persistent, or recurrent chest pain should be treated as a medical emergency. It could indicate a more severe heart condition such as a heart attack. (6)
