How to treat it?
Hyponatremia can potentially be life-threatening. So it is imperative that it be detected quickly and treated in the most appropriate way possible. Symptomatic hyponatremia requires hospitalization in all cases.
Several factors will determine the type of treatment, and especially the speed with which the natremia is corrected: the degree of severity of the drop, the duration of the disorder (acute or chronic), and the symptoms presented.
Treatment depends on the causes, but most commonly doctors recommend:
- Water restriction. In the case of mild to moderate hyponatremia, with little or no symptoms, simple fluid restriction is usually recommended.
