Symptom 11: Swelling in the Legs and Ankles
The Unwelcome Edema
Swelling in the legs and ankles, also known as edema, can be another sign of pancreatic cancer. This symptom occurs when excess fluid accumulates in the tissues, causing them to swell. In pancreatic cancer patients, this may be due to the tumor obstructing the flow of blood or lymphatic fluid in the abdomen, leading to fluid buildup in the lower extremities. (13)
Recognizing and Addressing Edema
If you notice persistent swelling in your legs and ankles, along with other symptoms discussed in this article, consult your healthcare provider. They will help determine the cause of the swelling and recommend appropriate interventions, such as diuretics, compression stockings, or treatment of the underlying condition.
