Symptom 5. Night Sweats: The Nocturnal Mysteries
There’s something disconcerting about waking up drenched, especially when the room is comfortably cool. Night sweats, different from regular perspiration, could be the body’s cry for attention. And in some cases, it whispers tales of MALT lymphoma.
The body’s internal thermostat, the hypothalamus, is a marvel. It keeps our internal temperature just right. But throw in some abnormal lymphoma cells, and this balance can be disrupted. They might release substances altering this delicate equilibrium, leading to intense nocturnal sweating.
Yet, what makes night sweats an enigma is their unpredictability. Some might experience them as fleeting episodes, while for others, they could be a nightly ordeal. The intensity, too, can vary, from mild dampness to needing to change drenched pajamas.
The reasons for these sweats can also extend beyond the mere presence of abnormal cells. Inflammation, a common response to malignancies, could be at play. The body, in its attempt to manage the inflammatory onslaught, might dial up the heat, leading to these perspiration episodes. (5)
