While antipsychotic drugs can control hallucinations and psychosis, they can exacerbate the motor symptoms in DLB patients, leading to increased rigidity and potentially life-threatening conditions such as Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. Moreover, these medications can contribute to cognitive decline, further compounding the existing cognitive symptoms in DLB.
