Nighttime Low Blood Sugar.
Hypoglycemia can occur at any time during the day, but some people may also experience it at night while they are sleeping. It might happen as a result of:
- Having an active day;
- Physical activity close to bedtime;
- Taking too much insulin;
- Drinking alcohol at night.
If you have episodes of low blood sugar, it is recommended that you eat regularly during the daytime and have a snack before going to bed. Sometimes you might be awakened by your low blood sugar, but you shouldn’t rely on that. It is a good idea to use a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), which can alert you if your blood sugar has dropped lower than normal while you’re asleep. [9]
