10 Depression Symptoms

4. Sleep Disorders.

Sleep disturbance affects around 90% of people with depression. This symptom may manifest either in the form of insomnia (difficulty falling asleep) or hypersomnia (excessive sleep).

Insomnia is more common, with 80% of people suffering from depression having trouble falling or staying asleep. Hypersomnia is seen in 15 to 25% of cases and is more frequent in the younger population.

Sleep disorders may be the root cause of depression and not just a symptom. That’s why it is very important to improve sleeping ability as part of depression treatment. [3]
