7. Feelings of Worthlessness and Guilt.
Depression can change the opinions we have about ourselves. We may suddenly find ourselves unappealing, even worthless. A permanent feeling of guilt for past mistakes may arise and make it very difficult to let them go. Even trivial events may become personalized, with blame for every failure falling on your shoulders. Even the most minor things, may start to seem like absolute proof of worthlessness and inadequacy.
A person suffering from depression will most likely blame themselves in every situation. For example, if there was a row with a partner that ended with a breakup. Despite factors such as the partner being rude or disrespectful, the depressed person will most likely blame themselves for everything, without even considering the impact the other person’s behavior had on the situation. In cases of severe depression, it is also possible to develop psychotic symptoms such as delusions (such as paranoia) or hallucinations (for example, hearing voices). [7]
