Symptom 4. Unexplained Bruising: The Mysterious Marks
Every so often, with monoclonal gammopathy, one might discover bruises without any recollection of an injury. These aren’t the marks left behind after a known bump or mishap. They appear without a discernible cause, and their mystery can be baffling.
The reason behind this symptom is rooted in the condition’s potential to reduce the number of platelets in the blood. Platelets are essential for clotting, and a decrease in their numbers can result in easy bruising. The skin might bear the marks of internal skirmishes, unseen battles happening beneath the surface.
These bruises, often blue or purplish, can vary in size. Some might be tiny, almost pinprick-like, while others could be larger, more evident. The unpredictability of their appearance and size is a hallmark of this symptom.
Over time, those affected might start noticing patterns. For instance, the frequency of these mysterious bruises might increase, or they might appear predominantly in specific areas. Their unpredictability and seemingly random appearance can be both curious and concerning. (4)
