Fact 6: Changes in Urination: The Stealthy Symptom of MODS
We often disregard our bathroom habits, but they’re more critical than we think. Changes in urination patterns are an important symptom when discussing MODS, with variations hinting at possible kidney involvement. They might seem insignificant, but they carry serious implications for health.
The kidneys play a key role in removing waste products and excess fluid from our bodies, both of which are expelled through urination. However, when kidneys struggle due to conditions like MODS, urination patterns can drastically change. You might urinate less often, not at all, or in larger quantities than usual.
Living with these changes can be challenging. It’s disruptive, often necessitating frequent trips to the restroom or, conversely, causing distress due to the inability to urinate. What’s more, changes in urination can be accompanied by swelling in the hands, feet, or face due to fluid accumulation, adding to the discomfort.
Yet, what’s more alarming is what this symptom signifies – that the kidneys aren’t effectively doing their job. If waste products aren’t efficiently removed, they can accumulate in the body, potentially leading to a buildup of harmful toxins. It’s a clear sign that MODS is impacting one of our body’s primary filtration systems. (6)
