Symptom 2. Swelling in the Neck: An Indicative Symptom of Stage 2 Thyroid Cancer
Swelling in the neck, especially near the Adam’s apple, can be another symptom of stage 2 thyroid cancer. This swelling can be related to the growing thyroid tumor, or it could result from affected lymph nodes in the neck area.
This kind of swelling is not typically painful. It’s often noticed during routine activities like looking in the mirror or touching the neck. You might even notice your collars getting tighter or difficulty with neckties or scarves.
However, swelling in the neck can also be caused by several other conditions, such as bacterial or viral infections, goiter (an enlarged thyroid), or other non-cancerous diseases of the thyroid. Nonetheless, if you notice persistent swelling in the neck, particularly if it’s accompanied by a lump or nodule, it’s crucial to seek medical advice. (2)
