Symptom 3. Changes in Voice: The Unexpected Indicator of Stage 2 Thyroid Cancer
Changes in voice can be an unexpected symptom of stage 2 thyroid cancer. The thyroid gland is located near the voice box, or larynx. As the tumor grows, it may press on the nerves that control the vocal cords, leading to changes in the voice.
These changes might include hoarseness, voice fatigue, a significant change in vocal pitch, or even a loss of volume. Some people may feel like they have a constant lump in their throat or “voice box area,” even when they’re not sick.
If you’re someone who uses their voice extensively, for instance, a singer, teacher, or public speaker, you might notice these changes more readily. But, regardless of your profession, if you or those around you notice persistent changes in your voice, it’s worth bringing to the attention of your healthcare provider. (3)
