The compromised skin barrier increases the risk of bacterial infections. Symptoms might include increased redness, warmth, pus formation, and in some cases, fever.

Broken skin, whether from ulcers, erosions, or even excessive dryness, is an open door for bacteria. The compromised immune function in mycosis fungoides patients can make them more susceptible.

While any lesion can get infected, ulcers and erosions are particularly vulnerable. Areas under frequent friction, like underarms or groin, are also at a heightened risk.

Maintaining good hygiene, keeping wounds clean and covered, and applying prescribed topical antibiotics can stave off infections. Systemic antibiotics might be required for more severe infections. (12)
