9. Eroded or Ulcerated Skin: The Breached Barrier

One of the more distressing symptoms is when the skin lesions break down to form erosions or ulcers. These are open sores that can ooze, bleed, and are highly prone to secondary infections.
Advanced plaques and tumors, especially those under constant friction or trauma, can break down. The malignant T-cells compromise skin integrity, leading to the loss of the skin’s top layers.
Ulcers can be painful. Moreover, given that they represent an open barrier, the chances of bacterial or fungal infections skyrocket. This can lead to increased pain, pus formation, and even systemic symptoms if not treated promptly.
Keeping the area clean and dry is paramount. Topical antibiotics or antiseptics may be prescribed to stave off infections. In severe cases, systemic antibiotics might be needed. (9)
