4. Fatigue: Not Just Lack of Sleep
Fatigue is a pervasive symptom, manifesting in various conditions. It’s not just about feeling “sleepy” or “tired”; it’s a profound exhaustion that doesn’t seem to improve, irrespective of the amount of rest. This kind of fatigue, especially when unexpected or disproportionate to one’s activities, hints at an underlying issue.
Fatigue associated with tubular adenoma often results from subtle internal bleeding from the polyp. Over time, even minimal, unnoticed blood loss can lead to anemia. Anemia itself is a major culprit behind fatigue. It means the body isn’t getting the amount of oxygen it needs, leading to reduced energy.
Apart from fatigue, anemia might present other signs, including pale skin, dizziness, cold hands and feet, headaches, and chest pain. These symptoms, combined with fatigue, can severely impact daily routines, work efficiency, and overall quality of life.
Any unusual or persistent fatigue should be discussed with a healthcare provider. Regular health screenings, especially blood tests, are essential. A complete blood count can provide a clear picture of one’s hemoglobin levels, indicating or ruling out anemia and directing further diagnostic steps, possibly including a colonoscopy if tubular adenoma is suspected.
