2. Vascular Issues: The Silent Culprits
Our second cause takes us deep into the vascular maze of our bodies, to explore the potential link between vascular issues and TGA. The vascular system, our body’s network of blood vessels, is integral to maintaining proper blood flow to our brain. When this complex system faces disruptions, it could trigger a variety of neurological conditions, including Transient Global Amnesia.
The brain, the most oxygen-hungry organ in our body, is highly susceptible to changes in blood supply. When blood vessels narrow or become blocked due to conditions like atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), it may lead to transient ischemic attack (TIA). These “mini-strokes” temporarily disrupt the blood supply to parts of the brain, which could potentially trigger TGA.
Moreover, TGA episodes often occur in individuals with vascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. These conditions, by compromising blood vessel health, can disrupt the brain’s delicate oxygen balance, potentially paving the way for TGA. (2)
