4. Physical Exertion: Pushing the Brain’s Limits
Breaking into our fourth potential cause of Transient Global Amnesia, we find ourselves examining the realm of physical exertion. Rigorous physical activities, such as heavy lifting, strenuous exercise, or sexual intercourse, have been known to precipitate TGA episodes.
Physical strain can put a significant load on the body, leading to changes in blood pressure and heart rate, and even transient changes in brain oxygenation. During strenuous activities, there’s a surge in the release of certain chemicals like endorphins and adrenaline. This heightened physiological state might inadvertently trigger a TGA episode in susceptible individuals.
Though many of us embrace physical exercise for its manifold health benefits, including bolstered heart health and improved mood, the potential link to TGA poses an interesting paradox. However, it’s crucial to note that TGA following physical exertion is quite rare. Moreover, regular moderate exercise is a cornerstone of good health, and the benefits usually outweigh the risks. (4)
