Some people whose lung cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastasized) have symptoms specific to that part of the body. Metastatic signs and symptoms may include the following:
- bone pain,
- spinal cord compression or irritation which may cause loss of sensation and weakness,
- neurologic problems such as headaches, numbness of limbs, dizziness, and seizures.
A person diagnosed with lung cancer may also have symptoms such as:
- fatigue,
- weight loss,
- hoarse voice,
- wheezing,
- difficulty swallowing,
- abdominal or joint pain,
- finger clubbing (enlarged fingertips).
Having any one of these symptoms does not necessarily mean that you have lung cancer. Some of these symptoms may be caused by other conditions or be the side effects of smoking.
In approximately 7-10% of cases, lung cancers are occasionally diagnosed during routine tests for other conditions in patients presenting with no symptoms at all.
Let’s have a closer look at each symptom in detail.
