8. Dental Erosion: GERD’s Silent Enamel Erosion
One of the more clandestine effects of GERD is the toll it takes on dental health. Stomach acid, by its very nature, is extremely corrosive. When it frequently makes its way to the mouth, it can begin eroding the enamel on our teeth, leading to a host of dental issues.
Those with GERD might find their teeth becoming more sensitive to hot and cold foods. They might also notice discoloration or even chipping. Dentists can often spot signs of dental erosion and may be the first to suggest GERD as an underlying cause.(8)
