Symptom 2: Fever
Fever is the body’s natural response to infection or illness. It’s a sign that the body is fighting something, be it a common cold or something more severe. With Kikuchi Disease, fevers are not a mere side effect; they’re a direct symptom.
What makes the fevers associated with Kikuchi Disease stand out is their abrupt onset. One might feel perfectly fine one moment and then be hit with a sudden spike in temperature the next. This isn’t a gentle rise but often a sharp, noticeable increase, sometimes accompanied by chilling sensations that can be quite discomforting.
However, this fever isn’t long-lasting in most cases. It might come and go, sometimes lulling individuals into thinking they’re better before returning in full force. This intermittent nature can make it easy to dismiss, especially if one isn’t aware of Kikuchi Disease. (2)
