One of the key indicators of carpal tunnel syndrome is that the symptoms often worsen over time. The condition usually begins with mild numbness or tingling in the fingers, which may come and go. In addition to the worsening of existing symptoms, new symptoms may also develop as CTS progresses, such as hand weakness, loss of fine motor skills, and decreased sensation in the fingertips.
