Symptom 2. Weakness in the Hand and Fingers
Another symptom of CTS is the weakening of the hand and fingers, which can affect a person’s ability to grip objects or perform fine motor tasks. This weakness is due to the compression of the median nerve, which controls the muscles in the hand and fingers.
In the early stages of CTS, the weakness may only be noticeable during certain activities, such as opening a jar or holding a pen. As the condition progresses, however, the weakness may become more constant and make it difficult for a person to perform even simple tasks, like buttoning a shirt or holding a glass.
