4. Impaired Sweating: A Troublesome Feature
Individuals with Fabry disease often have difficulty sweating, a condition known as hypohidrosis or anhidrosis. This can lead to problems with temperature regulation, making it difficult for those affected to tolerate heat or engage in physical activity without feeling overheated. The impaired sweating in Fabry disease is thought to be a result of Gb3 buildup in sweat glands, leading to their dysfunction.
To manage this symptom, individuals with Fabry disease are advised to take precautions to avoid overheating, such as staying in cool environments, wearing lightweight clothing, and drinking plenty of water. In more severe cases, medication or other treatments may be recommended to help improve sweating function. (4)
