Symptom 4. Dizziness and Lightheadedness: Unsettling Effects of Microcytic Anemia
Dizziness and lightheadedness can be disconcerting symptoms of microcytic anemia. These symptoms occur due to a decrease in oxygen supply to the brain. As we know, our brain needs a constant supply of oxygen to function properly. In microcytic anemia, the decreased size of red blood cells reduces this oxygen supply, which can lead to feelings of dizziness or lightheadedness.
This symptom can manifest itself in different ways. Some individuals may experience a sense of unsteadiness or a feeling that they are about to faint. Others might feel a sensation of spinning or moving when they are stationary, which can be quite disturbing.
It’s worth mentioning that these symptoms can become more pronounced when changing positions, such as standing up from a sitting or lying position. This is due to a rapid decrease in blood pressure, which can worsen the feeling of lightheadedness or dizziness.(4)
