A rapid or irregular heartbeat, also known as tachycardia or arrhythmia, is another symptom associated with microcytic anemia. Under normal circumstances, our heart and the rest of our body receive a sufficient supply of oxygen. However, when red blood cells decrease in size due to microcytic anemia, the oxygen supply is compromised. This can put a strain on the heart, leading to an irregular or rapid heartbeat.

In response to a decrease in oxygen, the heart may start to beat faster to compensate and ensure that enough oxygen reaches all parts of the body. This can result in a racing or fluttering feeling in the chest, known as palpitations.

These palpitations can vary in severity and duration. Some individuals might experience them intermittently, while others might have them more frequently. The sensation can be unsettling, often causing anxiety, worry and even panic.

Feeling your heart flutter or race isn’t something to attribute solely to stress or emotional upheaval. It’s as if your heart is knocking from the inside, trying to tell you it’s in a battle for oxygen. Take heed of its message and consider taking an appropriatte action. (5)
