Symptom 7: Skin Discoloration
Seborrheic dermatitis can sometimes lead to skin discoloration in the affected areas. This can manifest as either hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) or hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin) and is typically more noticeable in individuals with darker skin tones.
Skin discoloration can occur as a result of the inflammation and irritation associated with seborrheic dermatitis, which can disrupt the skin’s natural pigmentation process. In some cases, the discoloration may persist even after the other symptoms of the condition have subsided.
Treatment for skin discoloration may include topical therapies, such as lightening agents or retinoids, as prescribed by a healthcare professional. It’s important to note that skin discoloration can take time to improve, and patience is key when managing this symptom. (7)
