Disease 12: Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that typically appear on the legs and feet. They occur when the valves in the veins become weakened, causing blood to pool and the veins to become enlarged. Varicose veins can cause symptoms such as pain, swelling, heaviness, and itching in the affected area, as well as cosmetic concerns.
Risk factors for varicose veins include age, pregnancy, obesity, prolonged standing, and a family history of varicose veins. Treatment for varicose veins can involve self-care measures like regular exercise, weight loss, and wearing compression stockings to improve blood flow in the legs. In more severe cases, medical procedures like sclerotherapy, laser treatment, or surgical intervention may be necessary to remove or close the affected veins. (12)
