A significant sign of SBS is a drastic change in the baby’s behavior. Shaken infants might be unusually irritable, show signs of anxiety, or demonstrate other changes that are out of character for them.
These behavioral changes might be subtle initially. Parents might notice a general sense of unease in the child, often characterized by increased fussiness, unexplained crying bouts, or difficulty being comforted.
These signs, which might be dismissed as general infant behavior, could, in fact, be the infant’s way of communicating distress. Remember, behavioral changes might be the only visible signs of the internal injury suffered by the child. (5)
