Symptom 7: Voice Changes
A change in voice quality, such as hoarseness or voice loss, can be another sign of a thyroid tumor. The thyroid gland is located near the larynx (voice box), and a tumor growing on the gland can affect the nerves that control your voice, leading to noticeable changes.
Your voice might become hoarse, raspy, or weaker. You might also experience voice fatigue, which means your voice tires easily, especially after prolonged talking. Some people may even lose their voice altogether.
These changes may develop slowly over time, making them easy to dismiss initially. However, if voice changes persist and are not due to a cold or other temporary condition, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
Your healthcare provider might recommend a laryngoscopy, a procedure that involves examining your larynx using a small, flexible tube called a laryngoscope. This can help determine if a thyroid tumor is causing these voice changes. If a tumor is present, treatment options can be explored to manage the tumor and its symptoms. (7)
