Symptom 6. Swelling and Puffiness: The Visible Effects of Uveitis on the Eye
Swelling and puffiness around the eye can be symptoms of uveitis, particularly when the inflammation affects the front part of the eye, known as anterior uveitis. The inflammation can cause fluid to accumulate in the eye tissues, leading to a puffy or swollen appearance.
This swelling can be uncomfortable and may even cause the eyelids to become partially or fully closed, making it difficult to see properly. Additionally, the swelling may be accompanied by redness, tenderness, or warmth around the affected eye.
To alleviate the swelling and puffiness associated with uveitis, your eye care professional may prescribe corticosteroid eye drops or other anti-inflammatory medications to reduce inflammation. Cold compresses can also help alleviate discomfort and reduce swelling temporarily. (6)
