Most people keep photographs or mementos as keepsakes; Munchausen patients, however, may collect medical souvenirs. From hospital wristbands to prescription papers, these serve as both proof and a bizarre sort of trophy. Each item tells a story, though woven from half-truths and fabrications.
The collection isn’t random; each item corresponds to a specific narrative. If someone were to question the legitimacy of their illnesses, these souvenirs serve as ‘evidence.’ It’s a way of reinforcing their own narrative, both to themselves and the people around them. (5)
