Symptom 9: Unseen but Felt – Internal Discomfort
As stage 4 thyroid cancer progresses, it can lead to a unique symptom – a feeling of pressure or discomfort in the neck and throat. This symptom is not visible externally, but the discomfort felt is very real and palpable.
It may start as a vague discomfort, a sensation of something being “off” in the throat or neck. You might feel the need to clear your throat frequently or the sensation of something stuck that can’t be swallowed or coughed up.
As the disease progresses, this discomfort can escalate into a constant pressure in the neck, almost as if the neck is being gently squeezed. It’s a discomfort that doesn’t seem to let up, becoming a constant companion.
This internal discomfort or pressure sensation can be distressing. It’s a constant reminder of the internal turmoil the body is going through, adding to the disease’s emotional burden. (9)
