Symptom 6. Kidney Problems
APS can also affect the kidneys, leading to conditions such as renal vein thrombosis or glomerulonephritis. Renal vein thrombosis is the formation of blood clots in the renal veins, which can cause pain in the back or side, bloody urine, and decreased kidney function.
Glomerulonephritis, on the other hand, refers to inflammation of the glomeruli, the tiny structures within the kidneys responsible for filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood. This inflammation can cause symptoms such as swelling, high blood pressure, and decreased kidney function.
If left untreated, kidney problems associated with APS can progress to chronic kidney disease or even kidney failure. Early diagnosis and proper management of kidney issues are crucial to prevent long-term complications.
If you experience symptoms suggestive of kidney problems, consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation and appropriate treatment. (6)
