Flushing, or an intense and often sudden feeling of heat accompanied by reddening of the skin, can also occur in advanced MTC. This happens due to the excess production of certain hormones by the cancerous cells in the thyroid gland. The excess hormones can cause blood vessels to widen (dilate), leading to a flushed appearance.

Flushing typically occurs in the face and neck and can be quite uncomfortable. It is often accompanied by sweating and a warm sensation. This symptom can be quite distressing for patients and significantly impact their daily life.

Addressing flushing involves treating the underlying MTC and managing the symptom itself. Medications may be prescribed to help manage this symptom, while treating the MTC can help reduce the overproduction of hormones causing the flushing. (10)
