The connection between the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is undeniable. EBV is a common virus, often causing mononucleosis, otherwise known as ‘mono.’ While most people infected with EBV won’t develop HL, some are at increased risk.

Research has indicated that EBV can lead to a specific type of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma known as ‘EBV-positive HL.’ This variant tends to occur more often in people with compromised immune systems, either due to a genetic condition, immunosuppressive medications, or other diseases like HIV/AIDS.

Interestingly, EBV-positive HL has also been found in individuals with no known immune system issues, suggesting that the virus alone could potentially induce the disease. However, this relationship is still not fully understood, and more research is needed to clarify the role of EBV in Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. (3)
