Symptom 8: Evanescent Erythema: The Fleeting Redness of PLC
PLC throws another curveball in its roster of symptoms: erythema. Characterized by fleeting redness on the skin, it might seem akin to blushing at first glance. Yet, its persistence reveals its true nature, related to the underlying inflammation.
Erythema isn’t static. It might be pronounced in the morning, subdued by afternoon, and somewhere in between by evening. This dynamism makes it one of the more challenging PLC symptoms to pin down and can be easily dismissed as skin sensitivity.
But this redness has depth. It often feels warmer to the touch, an indication of the increased blood flow to the affected areas. This warmth is the skin’s way of rallying its resources, directing increased blood, rich in immune cells, to combat the condition.
Furthermore, the appearance of erythema can be unsettling. It can cause cosmetic concerns, especially when it decides to manifest prominently on facial skin, challenging one’s self-esteem and confidence.
