Symptom 6. Fatigue: More Than Just Tiredness
Fatigue is an umbrella term often tossed around to describe a feeling of tiredness or lack of energy. But when linked with hyperviscosity syndrome, fatigue is more than just feeling sleepy post-lunch. It’s a deep-rooted lethargy that doesn’t budge after a good night’s sleep.
At its core, fatigue from hyperviscosity isn’t just about energy. It’s a culmination of the body’s organs not receiving the oxygen and nutrients they need. Each organ, from the brain to the muscles, relies on a consistent blood supply to function optimally. Thickened blood disrupts this, leaving the organs wanting.
On a day-to-day level, tasks that once felt routine can become mountainous. Concentrating at work, keeping up with chores, or even engaging in social activities can feel draining. It’s a weariness that lingers, casting a shadow over daily life.
Contrary to common fatigue, a cup of coffee or a power nap doesn’t shake off this tiredness. It’s persistent, making one feel like they’re wading through treacle, both mentally and physically. This symptom, while not painful or overtly disruptive, erodes quality of life subtly but steadily. (6)
