10. Overactive Thinking: The Mind That Never Rests
Lying in bed with a cascade of thoughts gushing forth can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it can be the wellspring of creativity, but on the other, a significant barrier to sleep. The incessant barrage of ‘what ifs,’ memories, or plans for the next day can prevent the mind from winding down.
There’s a certain rhythm to sleep, a winding down of the mind and body. Overactive thinking can disrupt this natural progression, holding the individual in a limbo between wakefulness and sleep.
The causes can be manifold, from the stresses of the day to simply being more active during the night due to one’s natural circadian rhythm. (10)
