8. Excessive Belching: Releasing More Than Just Air
Belching, also known as burping, is a common bodily function, allowing for the release of excess air from the stomach. However, when it becomes excessive or persistent, it can signal an underlying digestive problem. It’s not just the act of belching that’s of concern, but also the frequency and the sensation it produces.
Excessive belching can be a sign that the body is struggling with food digestion. When food breaks down, gas is produced. However, in some cases, too much gas gets trapped, leading to that familiar need to belch. Intriguingly, swallowing too much air – which can happen when drinking through a straw or talking while eating – can also amplify this symptom.
For some women, the act of belching might bring relief, as it helps dispel discomfort. Yet, for others, it can be a cause for embarrassment, especially when it occurs unexpectedly during social or professional settings. (8)
