Sign 2: Jaundice
Jaundice, a term many of us have come across, is another early indicator of liver damage. It’s a condition marked by the yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes. This yellowing is due to the liver’s inability to effectively process bilirubin—a byproduct of old red blood cells.
When the liver is functioning optimally, it efficiently processes bilirubin, allowing it to pass through the body and be eliminated. However, when the liver is compromised, bilirubin accumulates in the body, leading to the yellowing characteristic of jaundice. If you notice a yellowish tint to your skin or eyes, it’s essential to seek medical advice as soon as possible, as this could be a sign of liver dysfunction. (2)
