If you have a coughing fit, you can easily calm it down by using an onion. It has a lot of sulfur and is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-infectious. The properties of the onion will help to break down mucus and get rid of it.

To use it, simply peel an onion, cut it in half and place it by your bed. If the smell is too strong and disturbing, there is another way: instead of peeling the onion, cut it into cubes and use its juice. Collect the liquid, filter it and mix with a spoonful of honey to improve the taste. Honey is effective against dry coughs, and when added to onions, can quickly soothe a sore throat.
