8. Marshmallow Root
Marshmallow root has the following properties: anti-inflammatory, anti-cough, decongestant, emollient and draining. Thanks to these numerous virtues, marshmallow root helps relieve most coughs. When mixed with water, it releases mucilage. Mucilage protects irritated mucous membranes by coating their walls. It helps to calm the irritation of the mucous membranes that is causing the cough.
To take it as a tea, infuse 2 teaspoons of the dried plant in a cup of hot water. Take a couple of cups a day.
To prepare a marshmallow cough syrup, make a decoction of marshmallow roots by boiling 20 g of roots in 500 ml of water for 10 minutes, then strain. Mix the decoction with sugar or honey and cook for about 10 minutes until a syrupy liquid is obtained. Take 2 to 3 spoons a day in case of dry cough.
The ideal cough remedy would be to combine thyme, which is antitussive, antiseptic and antiviral, with an emollient and anti-inflammatory plant, such as marshmallow, which calms throat irritation.
