Diarrhea Home Remedies

How to Deal with Diarrhea at Home:

Prevent Dehydration

During a bout of diarrhea, the body loses a lot of water and electrolytes (which include minerals such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, which play an important part in many physiological processes in the body). Dehydration is the number one reason why people with diarrhea go to the emergency room. It must be prevented and treated properly. It’s vital to replace the fluids and electrolytes that are lost. Drink plenty of water or rehydration drinks like ones available in drugstores or electrolyte-rich sports ones. Avoid drinks with a laxative effect, such as caffeinated drinks, sugary drinks, and alcohol.

Be extra cautious if your child has diarrhea. Young children and babies with diarrhea need pediatric rehydration drinks (you can find them under such brand names: Pedialyte, Enfalyte, Gastrolyte) as they tend to lose fluids faster than adults.
