Diarrhea Home Remedies

Use probiotics

Probiotics are live bacteria that maintain a healthy and balanced environment in the digestive system. Diarhhea causes a big loss of good bacteria in the stomach and intestines. Probiotics quickly replace these good gut bugs that we need and help restore normal bowel function. Taking them is an excellent idea, as they can help shorten an episode of diarrhea by about a day. Look for probiotic supplements containing Lactobacillus bacteria, Bifidobacterium bacteria and Saccharomyces boulardii (S. boulardii) yeast.

It is recommended to avoid dairy products during diarrhea, but every rule has its exceptions. Yogurt and kefir are rich in live probiotic bacteria, so can be extremely helpful in fighting diarrhea. Other foods that contain probiotics include soy drinks, miso and some pickles.
