Diagnosis.
Generally, recovery comes within 48 hours of intoxication. However, if suspicious or long-lasting symptoms appear, it is best to consult a doctor. Here are the signs that it’s time to seek medical help:
- You just returned from a trip abroad and have had diarrhea for more than 72 hours.
- Diarrhea and fever (over 38ºc or 100.4ºf).
- Vomiting for more than 24 hours without improvement.
- Diarrhea for more than 5 days without improvement.
Immediate medical attention is required in cases of
- Neurological symptoms (confusion, brain fog, difficulty articulating).
- Blood in the urine, vomit and/or stool.
- Diarrhea, severe thirst, have not urinated for more than 12 hours and are unable to drink or keep fluids down.
