Tip 4: Limit Sun Exposure
Lupus can make your skin more susceptible to the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays, leading to skin rashes or even triggering a flare. It’s advisable, therefore, to limit your sun exposure as much as possible.
When you do go outside, make sure to protect your skin. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher on all exposed skin, and reapply it every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating. Wear protective clothing, including long sleeves, pants, and a wide-brimmed hat.
Try to avoid the sun when its rays are the strongest, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Additionally, be aware that UV rays can penetrate windows, so consider using window film at home and in your car to block these rays. (4)
