Iron rich foods
A deficiency could decrease the efficiency of enzymes involved in the production and conversion of thyroid hormones. Iron is necessary for the production of T4 and T3 hormones in the thyroid gland and for the conversion of T4 to T3, which is the more active form and then the use of T3 inside the cell. It is therefore necessary to ensure a good level of iron in the body. The daily requirement is 10 to 15 mg per day.
The foods richest in iron are:
- Offal;
- Red meat, poultry: beef, chicken, turkey;
- Sea products;
- Fish: anchovies, herring and sardines;
- Beans, such as red kidney beans, edamame beans and chickpeas;
- Cocoa;
- Thyme;
- Seaweeds.
